SpoLaReG, the Sports Language Research Group, was officially endorsed by the Council of the Faculty of Modern Languages and Literature at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, on September 24th, 2015.
The group was established by three researchers (founding members) from the Faculty of Modern Languages and Literature:
– Anna Godzich (Institute of Romance Studies),
– Marcin Lewandowski (Institute of Linguistics) and
– Janusz Taborek (Institute of German Studies).
The group aims to promote research into the language of sport, which has been investigated in a broad range of linguistics subfields, such as: sociolinguistics, pragmatics, lexicography, cognitive linguistics, text and corpus linguistics, terminology and translation studies. The founding members have published extensively on various facets of sports language, primarily football language. Our contributions include monographs, dictionaries and articles published in international journals and edited volumes.
Our first initiative was a one-day symposium on the language of sport held in Poznań on March 31, 2016.
